Creature Feature: Thorn Bug

The “thorn bug” a.k.a. Umbonia crassicornis, can been found not only in red and green, but RAINBOW colored, as you can see from the picture below by Lyle J. Buss. According to the University of Florida’s “Featured Creatures” this sap sucker is a pest found on ornamental and fruit trees, causing “damage by piercing the plant tissue and sucking the sap and by making cuts in the plant for oviposition.”
